The awkward truth about Preparation H (and social media)
Published 2 months ago • 2 min read
The other day, I was packing for a camping trip and realized we were out of a very important item: Preparation H.
Now, before you totally start laughing at me, in our family this is a tried-and-true remedy for mosquito bites - a trick passed down for years. (Yes, really - thanks mom!)
But still… it's a bit intimidating to go buy this particular item when you live in a small town. I mean, I just know I'm going to run into someone at the store.
And nothing screams awkward small talk like chatting about summer plans with a box of Preparation H staring up at you from the grocery basket.
So naturally, I did what any sane person would do:
Went to the store at 7am
Bought some mini carrots and raspberries I didn’t need
Buried the box under the superfluous produce
Used self-checkout
And prayed no one saw me
We all have these moments - things that feel weird, vulnerable, or just... cringe (anyone else think that word gets too much credit?!).
And guess what, posting on social media is one of them.
Even for me, a professional marketer, I had to think twice before posting a Reel about this very story. I mean, do I really want to be known as “the Preparation H girl” on Instagram?

But here’s the thing: this Reel got traction. People relate to real.
The most awkward human moments are often what build the most trust.
And that’s what we help our social media management clients do - show up with consistency, personality, and just enough vulnerability to make it matter.
We help brainstorm, schedule, edit, and nudge. We offer structure and strategy, but we also make space for real moments like these. Our job is to strike the balance between what feels safe to post and what may push you out of your comfort zone and resonate.
Let's face it - social media gets a lot less scary when you don’t have to do it alone (as does buying Preparation H).

We just opened up a few spots for full-service social media management!
These don’t open often, and they go quick. If you’ve been waiting for someone to take this off your plate - but still keep you in the loop - this is it!
You may notice a name change on this weekly newsletter 💛 Honestly, writing about my ridiculous experiences is a lot more fun and (I hope) entertaining. This is still a place for all things marketing, but I am moving the bulk of the informational tips, frameworks, and resources to my blog! I'll link new posts when they go live so you can take a look and use this space to share a real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to own a small business, be a mom, and attempt to not embarrass myself daily.

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! This week marks the unofficial end of summer for our family - the kids (and my husband) are back to school (insert small happy dance!). While it’s a little sad to see summer go, I’ll admit: I’m ready for the routine again. This is also the season for one of my very favorite...
A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! We are officially back from our whirlwind summer travels! It all started with a 10-hour drive to Montana for a music festival, 10 hours back to Idaho, a two-day turnaround, and then we were on a plane to New Jersey with two kids in tow for a two-week stay on the East Coast. Concert...

A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! One of my very favorite things to do is go camping. And this year, for some reason, I decided to resurrect an old-school tradition: Jiffy Pop. You know, that ridiculous shakeable popcorn you hold over the fire? What I forgot is how long it takes to make the stupid thing. The fire’s...
