Hot Tip: This is the best book I have read in years!

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier!

Lately, I’ve been feeling… scattered.

Not burned out, not overwhelmed - just a little chaotic.

When I feel that way, everything suffers: I miss small things. My brain skips between tasks. I produce “just okay” work instead of the quality I want.

So I went full nerd and picked up a new book: Uptime by Google productivity expert Laura Mae Martin.

(Yes, another self-help book. No regrets.)

One of the best pieces of advice I got from her book was to protect your most productive hours like your life depends on it.

So simple, but it has tamed the work chaos better than anything else I have ever tried!

For me, that productive window is 9am to 1pm. And that is the time I often book most of my meetings.

But not anymore.

For the last three weeks, I put a new plan in motion (see my chicken scratch draft plan below)

Now, I give myself an hour in the morning to reset - handle kid chaos, answer a few emails, vacuum, whatever.

Then I block that precious mid-morning window for creative, focused, strategic work. Notifications off. Brain fully on.

Afternoons are for meetings and collaboration.

Mondays are team days.

Fridays are catch-up days.

And I batch tasks by theme: client work, internal systems, my own marketing, etc.

It’s not perfect, but 🤯- it helped me feel clearer, calmer, and WAY more productive.

So what, you may ask, does this have to do with marketing?

Everything.

Because this is the exact kind of system we build for our social media management clients, I just didn't realize it!

Most of the businesses we work with have a lot to say - multiple departments, seasonal services, product launches, community events - and posting consistently can feel like trying to do five things at once while someone is yelling your name and your dog is throwing up in the background. (Just me?)

So we had to find a way to organize that chaos.

And just like the framework I installed in my own daily schedule, we use a framework for our social media schedules.

We call it a Content Matrix. Its job is to map out messaging by week, by format, and by topic - so we always know what’s going out and why it matters.

This system makes it easier to stay consistent, hit goals, and streamline the entire process.

And if organizing content still sounds like one more thing you don’t want to add to your plate…

We’ve just opened 2 full-service social media management slots.

This doesn’t happen often, and we don’t take on many at a time.

If you’ve been wanting someone to take social media off your plate - but still keep your voice, your message, and your goals in mind - now is a great time to explore what a social media management partnership could look like for your business!

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! This week marks the unofficial end of summer for our family - the kids (and my husband) are back to school (insert small happy dance!). While it’s a little sad to see summer go, I’ll admit: I’m ready for the routine again. This is also the season for one of my very favorite...

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! We are officially back from our whirlwind summer travels! It all started with a 10-hour drive to Montana for a music festival, 10 hours back to Idaho, a two-day turnaround, and then we were on a plane to New Jersey with two kids in tow for a two-week stay on the East Coast. Concert...

Jiffy Pop

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! One of my very favorite things to do is go camping. And this year, for some reason, I decided to resurrect an old-school tradition: Jiffy Pop. You know, that ridiculous shakeable popcorn you hold over the fire? What I forgot is how long it takes to make the stupid thing. The fire’s...
