Butterflies and Bars (but not bar flies!)

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier!

As part of chaos theory: the phenomenon whereby a localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere.

Last week was my wedding anniversary.

And I don’t talk about this often in public, but… this is actually my second marriage.

When my first marriage ended, I had zero intention of dating. I was happy to be independent, happy to be on my own.

But then a couple of friends — who lived just a few doors down — invited me over for dinner. They knew what I’d been going through and wanted to offer a pre-Christmas “you made it” kind of night. Nothing fancy. Just dinner, drinks, and a little celebration.

So I grabbed a six-pack of Bud Light and walked down the street.

And surprise — there was a random guy already there. One of their friends.

I assumed they had just rounded up a group of unattached people with nowhere to be a few days before Christmas. No pressure, no expectations. Just a cozy, thrown-together evening with good food and company.

We had dinner. We laughed. We talked.

And then someone suggested we keep the night going — hit the bars for a few drinks. So we did. A few beers. A few rounds of cornhole.

A shared taxi ride home (thank you Prompt - always classy!).

That friend? He’s now my husband.

And ironically, I almost didn’t go to dinner that night.

It was December 22. And if you know me, you know I’m obsessed with all things Christmas. I don’t travel. I don’t socialize. I stay in, wrap presents, and sit by my Christmas tree with twinkly lights and a holiday movie in the background.

My entire family was coming up to McCall the next day. I was supposed to be prepping. But for some reason, I said yes to that dinner.

That was 14 years ago.

And last week we hit nine years of marriage!

It wasn’t something I planned. It wasn’t something I was looking for. But a few small decisions — made by a few different people — ended up changing the entire course of my life.

And that idea legit blows my mind.

I’m a pretty practical person. But I still can’t believe how little decisions, tiny shifts, can alter the big picture so completely.

So let’s bring it back to marketing (because I can't help myself 😉)...

The butterfly effect is real!

Those tiny actions you’re taking in your business right now?

The ones that feel like they don’t matter?

The Instagram post that gets 8 likes.

The email you send and hear crickets.

The blog post no one seems to read.

The event only 5 people showed up to.

The reel you film in your kitchen with no makeup and no script.

They matter.

Even if you can’t see the result right away.

Even if you’re not getting immediate feedback.

Every little action is part of a much bigger system. One that’s building momentum.

So today’s advice?

Just keep going!

Keep showing up.

You never know what one small decision could lead to down the road.

That’s it. That’s the whole message.

I’m going to go drink champagne now 🥂

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! This week marks the unofficial end of summer for our family - the kids (and my husband) are back to school (insert small happy dance!). While it’s a little sad to see summer go, I’ll admit: I’m ready for the routine again. This is also the season for one of my very favorite...

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! We are officially back from our whirlwind summer travels! It all started with a 10-hour drive to Montana for a music festival, 10 hours back to Idaho, a two-day turnaround, and then we were on a plane to New Jersey with two kids in tow for a two-week stay on the East Coast. Concert...

A behind-the-scenes look at my own unfiltered shenanigans from the marketing trenches. A real-life, no BS view of what it's really like to market a small business and ideas to make it all feel a whole lot easier! One of my very favorite things to do is go camping. And this year, for some reason, I decided to resurrect an old-school tradition: Jiffy Pop. You know, that ridiculous shakeable popcorn you hold over the fire? What I forgot is how long it takes to make the stupid thing. The fire’s...
